I took my family on a road trip to the West Coast. 16 days, 17 states and almost 6,000 miles. About 1,000 miles were up and down 7-15% grades, either in 3rd gear to get up or in 2nd gear engine braking down until you could smell the brakes. About 25 miles horizontal and 1 mile vertical from Dillon, Colorado to the Eisenhower (you can't make me call it Johnson) Tunnel in 3rd gear and the gauges never moved! I had to add gasoline and wash the windows in my 2002 Chevy Suburban that started the trip with 129,000 miles and a fresh oil change.
